Why Choose LSVT?
There are many exercise and therapy options for people living with Parkinson’s disease or other adult or pediatric neurological conditions. Here are some key factors that distinguish LSVT BIG physical/occupational therapy.
- Efficacy and Research: Extensive clinical research supports the effectiveness LSVT BIG in improving movement amplitude in individuals with Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions. Understanding the evidence base is crucial for recommending these treatments confidently.
- Treatment Protocols and Delivery: LSVT BIG involves a standardized, intensive treatment protocol consisting of 16 one-hour sessions over four weeks (four sessions per week). The intensity and consistency of this protocol is essential for achieving optimal neuroplasticity and functional improvements.
- Neuroplasticity and Mechanism of Action: Treatment is designed to drive lasting changes in neural pathways by leveraging principles of neuroplasticity. LSVT BIG focuses on enhancing the amplitude of movements, counteracting the effects of hypokinesia and bradykinesia in Parkinson's disease.
- Functional Outcomes and Quality of Life: LSVT BIG has been shown to significantly improve patients' functional abilities and overall mobility. These improvements contribute to better quality of life, greater social participation, and increased independence for people.
- Certification and Referral: Proper delivery of LSVT BIG requires therapists to be certified in this specific treatment protocol. Physicians should refer patients to certified LSVT clinicians to ensure they receive the full benefits of these evidence-based therapies.
